Resin bonded driveways are becoming increasingly popular as public awareness increases and prices are coming down. A resin bonded driveway is a driveway laid using a technique that bonds resin to decorative aggregate. The resin drives are especially good because they look great, are hard-wearing, quick to lay, slip-resistant, they don't have loose stones that can damage cars, and they have good traction. Resin bound paving is still a relative newcomer on the DIY and building market. Significant advances in epoxy resins and polymers have been made over the past few decades and now, the price is right too. However, despite this, many people are still not aware that resin based surfacing is an excellent option for their homes and offices. The surfacing is made from decorative gravel being 'glued' with a clear resin to an existing solid surface. The solid surface needs to be properly prepared and clean. The base also needs to be what is known as monolithic, which means that it should have few, if any, joints. There are then two methods of laying the resin and aggregate - resin bound and resin bonded. Both methods will be set in less than an hour so there is the need for the job to be done by competent workmen or DIY enthusiasts. The resin bound method involves the aggregate and resin being thoroughly mixed together and then spread over the base by hand using trowels and screeding bars. The correct thickness of the mixture can be laid this way. The resin bonded method involves laying the resin over the base and then scattering the aggregate over the tacky resin. Resin based surfacing can be laid both on the domestic and commercial properties. Commercially it is great for bus and cycle lanes and for beautifying the cities. Companies can have their logos designed into the surfacing. For residential use, the surfacing can be used on driveways, pathways and outdoor play areas. It can even be used indoors in conservatories or kitchens. There are many benefits of using resin based surfacing for both residential and commercial buildings. It is quick to dry, so can be in use immediately after the laying is done, there are no loose chippings, the finished surface is UV stable and resistant to oil spills, unique designs are possible, there are hundreds of colours to choose from, it is quick to lay, and the surface has a long life span. With so many benefits and such flexibility, consider resin based surfacing for your next surfacing project. Resin bonded driveways are a great choice for the home or office and can even be personalised with special designs and logos.
