Shkayla go back to their roots |

Shkayla is the indo-celtic-rock vehicle of renowned Irish violinist, Joe O'Donnell. The band blend a wide range of genres creating a truly unique listening experience that you won't find anywhere else. Joe's 1977 album Gaodhal's Vision was met with critical acclaim upon its release due to his innovative style of composing folk-story inspired music, but also because the record featured the talents of guitar-god, Rory Gallagher. Now, to mark its 40th anniversary, the band are re-issuing Gaodhal's Vision as a special edition, whilst also performing it start to finish at two lives shows on 31st March and 1st April at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. Interestingly, although Rory Gallagher died in 1995, Shkayla are keeping him on stage in spirit by having their music accompanied by recordings of his original solos during the show. As well as going back to their musical roots, Joe is also hoping that through his music, he can help irish people associate with their heritage, particularly with St. Patrick's day coming up. In recent years, the commercial side of St.Patrick's day has taken over, turning it into a drink fuelled event, rather than anything to do with its original meaning. Gaodhal's Vision tells the story of how the Milesian people originally came to Ireland and this is the kind of tale that people can learn about through Joe's music. Consequently, he feels that the day has lost its meaning and this should be addressed. Joe is a classically trained musician but his work with rock bands allowed him to discover the connection between Indian and Celtic modal music which he now pioneers along with Shkayla.
