Potty Training Boys - When to Start? |
Posted: March 24, 2018 |
The right age to start potty training your son is between 2 and 3 years. Boys who use cloth diapers are usually ready to potty train earlier than their disposable diaper counterparts.
Before you start, make sure you have the necessary potty training supplies available at your disposal. Must have supplies include: potty chairs (one for each bathroom), training pants or underwear and cleaning supplies. Also, get some potty training rewards to lure your child to use the potty. It is extremely important to start potty training at the right time. Maintain your schedule clear for about two weeks, so you have enough time to spend with your son to follow the process. Avoid starting when you have big events happening like traveling or vacations. Summertime is a terrific time to start as he can run outside sans clothing without needing to worry about soiling his trousers. Let your child watch you when you use the toilet. Explain him the whole process of using the toilet to cleaning and washing hands. Create a potty training schedule and stick to it religiously. Take your son to potty at regular intervals. Also, watch out for signs to understand when he needs to go to potty. Accidents will happen but it is important to remain calm and patient. Potty training is a significant transition in your child's life and it can be daunting for him if you don't have patience. Encourage your child by praising him whenever he does the potty successfully, or when you see he has made progress. Encouragement and positive reinforcement will boost their self-esteem, raise their confidence, and will be a huge motivator for them. Using rewards to motivate your child might work well too. However, don’t over do it. Finally, don't rush the process since it will take several tries for your child to be potty trained. Relax, have fun and keep in mind that soon you'll be ditching the diapers forever!
